Candidate for US Shadow Senator for DC

Andrew Haynesworth is a proud Washington, D.C. native who has been deeply rooted in the city's rich tradition of advocating for the expansion of rights and equality. With a strong belief that all citizens should be treated fairly and have the ability to shape the course of their lives, Andrew Haynesworth is dedicated to making a difference in the nation's capital.

Having begun his educational journey within the DC Public Schools system at John Eaton Elementary School and Alice Deal Middle School, Andrew later graduated from St. John’s College High School (SJC), marking a significant milestone in his academic journey.

During high school, Andrew served as Deputy Youth Mayor for Education in DC and was a proud member of the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Institute, now known as the Marion Barry Youth Leadership Institute (MBYLI). The unwavering support from his community led to Andrew receiving the prestigious Stephen Joel Trachtenberg (SJT) scholarship, enabling him to attend George Washington University (GWU).

Following his graduation from GWU, Andrew Haynesworth embarked on a multifaceted career aimed at advancing the well-being of Washington, D.C. He served as a business consultant, addressing 21st-century challenges, and as an educator within DC Public Schools, instilling joy and passion into the younger generations.

Throughout his career, Andrew has been a vocal advocate for DC Statehood, exemplified by his tenure as the DC Young Democrats (DCYD) National Committee Man from 2021 to 2023. Collaborating with counterparts across the country, Andrew played a pivotal role in building coalitions to ensure that DC Statehood is recognized as a vital national voting and civil rights issue. His approach brings youth, compassion, and a strong sense of community to his role as the US Shadow Senate Seat for D.C.

The events of 2021, including a national insurrection, underscored the urgency of DC Statehood as a means to safeguard democracy and the rights of the city's citizens who contribute to the nation through their taxes. In addition to this pivotal issue, Andrew Haynesworth is deeply concerned about the epidemic of gun violence and the potential threat to reproductive healthcare rights in D.C.

Motivated by the critical moment the city faces, Andrew Haynesworth has decided to run for office. In a time of unprecedented urgency, he believes that new leadership can expand the realm of possibilities for the city. Andrew is committed to being a steadfast advocate, champion, and educator in the pursuit of DC's rightful place as the 51st state, demanding more for the citizens of Washington, D.C.
